Attention, citizens! The Bug war is heating up once again as developer Offworld and publisher Knights Peak have just released Patch 1.5, titled Phantom’s Nest, for Starship Troopers: Extermination, and it brings a swarm of new features to the ever-expanding co-op shooter. Would you like to know more?
The latest update expands the 16-player Hive Hunt mode with a new “Escort the Nuke” mission that ups the pressure and chaos in classic Starship Troopers fashion. Horde mode also gets a rebalance, shifting wave progression to a timed system rather than the number of Bugs killed, a change that promises more tactical tension and less grind.
One of the standout additions is the new Morita II, a high-powered assault rifle with an optional plasma launcher attachment that packs a punch against the Arachnids. There are also new mods available for the Morita XXX and the TW-2-R Sp.L.I.T Shotgun, giving players more ways to customise their firepower.
Beyond weapons, Phantom’s Nest introduces quality-of-life upgrades, balance tweaks, and major updates to Galactic War mode, setting the stage for what’s coming next.
The next update (update 1.6), launching this August, promises even bigger changes. A brand-new Bug Spawning System is on the way to shake up every match, plus the first new game mode since Hive Hunt, with squads heading to Valaka and Agni Prime to secure a mysterious new resource known as Archnigeon. First discovered on Boreas, this substance could tip the balance of the war, if players can secure it before the Bugs do.
Starship Troopers: Extermination continues to evolve at a steady rate, and with every update, Offworld is delving deeper into the franchise’s rich sci-fi universe. Whether you’re a die-hard Trooper or a new recruit, there’s never been a better time to drop in.
Starship Troopers: Extermination is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and the Offworld shop.
