The Terror might return for Season 2 but as an anthology series

May 23, 2018 by Samuel Brace

AMC’s The Terror might find itself having a second season but it would be very different from the first.

The Terror, AMC’s latest prestige series, has gone over very well with critics and is the networks most watched series after The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, and Better Call Saul.

The show tells the tale of a doomed exhibition to find the Northwest Passage in the 1800s over the course of 10 episodes. For fans hoping for more, however, there is some good news and bad news.

There is a chance that the series will return but it will focus on a different story, as the show has now fully adapted its source material’s plot. Speaking to TV Guide on the subject, co-showrunner and executive producer Soo Hugh explained:

“When AMC greenlit the show now almost three years ago, they greenlit it as an anthology show. Meaning Season 1 would be the story of the Franklin Expedition, and subsequent seasons would take on a new narrative that carried the DNA that we established in Season 2.”

Hugh has also revealed that if The Terror does return, she and co-showrunner David Kajganich will not be coming back, with both eager to move onto something new after three years of working on the project.

Inspired by a true story, The Terror, from executive producers Ridley Scott, David Kajganich and Soo Hugh, takes viewers on a harrowing journey. The story centers on the Royal Navy’s perilous voyage into unchartered territory as the crew attempts to discover the Northwest Passage. Faced with treacherous conditions, limited resources, dwindling hope and fear of the unknown, the crew is pushed to the brink of extinction. Frozen, isolated and stuck at the end of the earth, The Terror highlights all that can go wrong when a group of men, desperate to survive, struggle not only with the elements, but with each other.
