The Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise is J.J. Abrams’ favourite scene from the Star Wars Prequels

November 26, 2019 by Samuel Brace

J.J. Abrams, the director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has revealed his favourite scene from the Prequel Trilogy.

With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, J.J. Abrams is looking to bridge all three trilogies and, therefore, show the prequels a little bit of love in the process.

What does J.J. like about the prequels? Well, it turns out that he loves a fan-favourite moment in Revenge of the Sith when Palpatine tells Anakin about his old master, Darth Plagueis. Speaking to SiriusXM, Abrams said:

“I think my favorite scene from the prequels is when the Emperor’s telling Anakin the story of Darth Plagueis the Wise. There’s just something about that scene. They’re just two people sitting there. It’s visually interesting. But I think Ian’s performance in it is spectacular.”

The tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise is incredibly popular among die-hard prequel fans with many hoping that one day the infamous Sith Lord will appear on screen himself. Who knows, perhaps the former dark lord might get a mention in Episode IX.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set for release on December 19th 2019 in the UK and December 20th 2019 in North America. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
