The Walking Dead spin-off to be a prequel?

November 17, 2013 by admin

Back in September it was revealed that AMC Studios is developing a companion show to the hit zombie series The Walking Dead, with comic book creator Robert Kirkman and producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert aiming for a 2015 premiere.

So far all plot details for the spin-off show have been kept firmly under wraps but now comes word from TV Line that the new series could be “a prequel of sorts, one that would chronicle the early days of the epidemic and the effort to contain it.” However, as a get-out clause, it’s also said that nothing is set in stone, as the project is still in the very early stages of development.

Meanwhile, speaking to IGN, Kirkman revealed that the companion series will consist of an entirely new cast of characters separate from that of the bestselling comic book series. “It definitely won’t be set in Georgia… It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spin-off has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out.”
