The Wayans Brothers returning to Scary Movie for new film

October 29, 2024 by EJ Moreno

If you loved Scary Movie and Scary Movie 2, you know there was a magic that The Wayans Brothers brought to the horror parody films. Now, a new generation can enjoy their time with what the Wayans can cook up.

Deadline reports that the franchise’s architects will return for the previously announced Scary Movie reboot. After 18 years, The Wayans Brothers will create their signature style of scares and giggles, though it was not stated who will write, direct, or star.

Scary Movie was developed by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Keenen Ivory Wayans served as writer and director and directed the first two films, with Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans penning and starring in the first two films. Anna Faris and Regina Hall also led these hilarious horror-filled spoofs.

Miramax Boss Jonathan Glickman says, “We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise. The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen, and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Wayans told the outlet, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

The new Scary Movie will be shot next year for a theatrical release.
