Thor: Ragnarok will “drastically” change the MCU ahead of Avengers: Infinity War

July 8, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Spider-Man: Homecoming may have just only opened in theaters, but we’re less than four months away from the release of the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and the third this year – Thor: Ragnarok.

Taking time out from talking Spider-Man, Kevin Feige has spoken to The Toronto Sun about the cosmic threequel, stating that it will “drastically” alter the MCU, and lead directly into the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

“I think that we are finding ourselves as we complete Phase Three and finish this 22-movie narrative that it’s working out that way. We did three Iron Man films, three Captain America films, three Thor films. Things change drastically in Ragnarok and then build directly into Infinity War.”

As to how Ragnarok could lead into Infinity War, Chris Hemsworth has previously hinted that we might see the inclusion of the sixth and final Infinity Stone in Ragnarok, while there have also been persistent rumours that Cate Blanchett’s Hela will turn out to be the MCU incarnation of Mistress Death, the objection of Thanos’ affections.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is being directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features Marvel veterans Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk alongside Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge and Sam Neill in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on October 27th in the UK and November 3rd in the States.
