Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri wins top prize at Toronto International Film Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival announced its award winners at the closing ceremony at TIFF Bell Lightbox today, with Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri taking home the top prize, the People’s Choice Award.

The People’s Choice Award – voted by the audience at the festival – also honoured two runners up in Craig Gillespie’s I, Tonya and Luca Guadagnini’s Call me By Your Name. The People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award went to Bodied, with The Disaster Artist and Brawl in Cell Block 99 runners up, while the People’s Choice Documentary Award went to Faces Places, the runners up being Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken! and Long Time Running.

Other winners included Pre-Drink (Best Canadian Short Film), The Burden (Best Short Film), Luk’ Luk’l (Best Canadian First Feature Film), Les Affames (Best Canadian Feature Film), The Great Buddha+ (NETPAC Award), Ava (FIPRESCI Discovery) and The Motive (FIPRESCI Special Presentations).
