Todd McFarlane still planning new Spawn animated series

October 13, 2017 by Gary Collinson

A few years ago, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane revealed that he was developing a new animated series based upon his comic book character, even going so far as to unveil some early concept art for the potential show.

McFarlane has of course since found the funding for his long-planned live-action feature film reboot, which is gearing up to go into production in February, and now he has revealed to Screen Geek that he’s still hoping the animated series becomes a reality.

“I’m going to get the [Spawn] movie out and then we still have the rights for TV and animation and we’ll just figure it out,” said McFarlane. “I’ve also got to figure out how to get Keith David in my movie, too. Just for one line.”

The original Todd McFarlane’s Spawn animated series ran for 18 episodes across three seasons on HBO between 1997 and 1999, and won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Program and Oustanding Individual Achievement in Animation.
