Tomb Raider director says the upcoming reboot will be inspired by the 2013 video game

March 5, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in November, it was announced that director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) has signed on to direct the long-gestating Tomb Raider reboot, and now the Norwegian filmmaker has confirmed to IGN that the film will explore the origin of Lara Croft, and is influenced by the 2013 video game reboot.

I think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that’s definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well. I think we’ll want to make people relate to Lara as a character. I’m hoping to bring some of my Norwegian sensibilities to the franchise. I’ve always been a fan of strong female characters and I think I’ve had strong female characters in all my previous movies, so that’s something I thought was interesting.”

Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Transformers 5) is writing the script for the new Tomb Raider movie, which is being produced by GK Films, Warner Bros. and MGM.
