Transformers: The Last Knight has got off to a solid start at the box office in its opening night.
Tuesday night previews for the fifth film in sci-fi series came in at a healthy $5.5 million from about 3000 screens across North America.
This figure matches that of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which is a good comparison to make considering both knew to look overseas for the vast majority of their takings.
Which is what Transformers 5 will likely have to count on considering it is tracking for $70 million over its five day opening, a figure that is far lower than the $100 million roll out for Transformers: Age of Extinction.
The fourth instalment of the franchise was the lowest domestic earner in the series but thanks to a healthy taking from other markets it managed to cross the $1 billion threshold and become the second highest grossing Transformers film globally.

Transformers: The Last Knight reunites Michael Bay with franchise veterans Mark Wahlberg, Josh Duhamel, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, John Goodman and Peter Cullen, while new additions to the cast include Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School), Jerrod Carmichael (Bad Neighbours), Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy), Santiago Cabrera (Merlin), Liam Garrigan (Once Upon a Time), Mitch Pileggi (The X-Files) and Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World). The film hits theaters on June 21st, 2017.
