Trent Reznor discusses working on Gone Girl

October 5, 2014 by Robert Kojder

If you’re unaware of who is behind the eerily haunting scores for David Fincher’s latest films – The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, and released this past Friday, Gone Girl – it is Nine Inch Nails front-man Trent Reznor. He is one of the most revered and decorated musicians of all time, and here is what he had to sayon CBS This Morning about his latest foray into cinema:

“With Nine Inch Nails I realize that a lot of times my strategy of writing a pop song is not to start with a hook and mechanically try to make this product that’s catchy. It’s more that I start with a feeling or sometimes a visual, and then I try to dress that visual with sound, and a song comes out the other end. That’s probably why my songs aren’t that catchy. With film work it’s really just replacing that vision that I come up with, with looking at the vision these guys have come up with. A lot of it is deploying the same strategy, so it’s not completely dissimilar. It’s interestingly challenging as well.”

Having seen Gone Girl, I can confirm that the soundtrack is a deeply brooding composition that blends right into the captivating mystery. You can purchase the soundtrack on Amazon here.
