Two classic A Boy and his Blob adventures coming to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch

October 6, 2023 by Andrew Newton

Ziggurat Interactive and Limited Run Games have announced they will be bringing A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection to Playstation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch on 17th October.  This collection features two classic adventures from the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Game Boy to today’s gamers.  Watch the new trailer below….

The A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection includes both the US and Japanese versions of A Boy and his Blob: Trouble in Blobolonia.  This classic NES adventure sees the titular boy and his blob friend (who is called Blobert) save the world of Blobolonia from the hands of the evil Emperor.  Players will need to solve puzzles and navigate platforms using Blob’s transforming abilities which are determined by 14 magical jellybeans.

The second adventure is The Rescue of Princess Blobette was a classic on the old Nintendo Game Boy and once again has Boy and his Blob save the day and defeat the bad guy.  In this adventure, disaster descends upon Blobolonia as an evil Alchemist has kidnapped the Princess and locked her up in the highest tower of the Royal Castle.  Can Boy and Blob defeat the Alchemist and save the Princess?

A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection is powered by Limited Run Games’ Carbon Engine and provides a retro feel with contemporary quality-of-life improvements.  Players will be able to change the aesthetic appearance of the games, and save the game (something we wish we had been able to do back in the day). There are also Trophies to collect for PS4/PS5 players.

Gamers on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5 will be able to purchase A Boy and his Blob: Retro Collection on 17th October.  A PC version is also scheduled for release.
