USA Network cancels Ryan Phillippe drama series Shooter

August 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The Ryan Phillippe-led drama series Shooter has been cancelled by USA Network, with the show set to draw to a close with season three’s finale in September.

Shooter, based upon the 2007 Mark Wahlberg movie and Stephen Hunter’s Point of Impact novel, premiered back in October 2016, having been pushed back on several occasions due to mass shootings in the United States.

The first season drew an average of 2.6 million viewers, but this number has trailed off, with the current third season averaging 1.5 million viewers, making it USA Network’s lowest rated drama among the key 18-49 demo.

The news follows on from the announcement last month that USA has also decided to call time on the sci-fi series Colony after three seasons.
