Vice teams up with 20th Century Fox to make feature films

December 9, 2014 by Alfie Nobes

It seems as though digital media platform Vice have decided it is about time to take another big step into the world of feature films.  The company plans to join forces with media giant 20th Century Fox for the joint venture into film making.

Vice will aim to release at least tow feature films a year employing up and coming directors.  The website which has been praised on its suggested ability to connect with younger audiences and influence youth culture has already released a number of features including a documentary series, Fishing Without Nets and All This Mayhem.

It could be suggested this move comes off the back of Fox buying up a 5% share of Vice Media for a total of $70 million. Vice also sold a number of 10% shares at a price of $250m each to Networks owned by among others, Hearst and Disney.

The Guardian quoted Jim Gianopulos, the 20th Century Fox chairman and chief executive, stating “Vice is a bold, groundbreaking new media company that allows us to reach an audience that is focused online and consumes its news and entertainment across many media platforms. Vice not only knows how to reach that audience but markets to them better than anyone else out there.”

Fox executives Sanford Panitch and Salil Mehta are set to overlook any Vice films for 20th Century Fox.
