Wargaming’s mech shooter Steel Hunters arrives on Early Access

April 2, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Wargaming, the developer of the hugely successful World of Tanks, has announced that their new free-to-play mech shooter Steel Hunters is now in Early Access.  Players can now control epic mech combat machines known as Hunters and take part in intense PvPvE battles, complete match objectives and earn powerful gear.  Watch the new Early Access launch trailer below…

Steel Hunters welcomes players to a world where Corporations and Factions battle for a valuable extraterrestrial resource using powerful mechanical giants called Hunters. Each Hunter has their own distinct playstyle, abilities and progressions systems that allow for a wide variety of tactics to be used on the battlefield.

During the Early Access period, players will have access to seven Hunters, these are Razorside, Heartbreaker, Fenris, Ursus, Trenchwalker, Prophet and Weaver, with each being customisable and have their own unique abilities.  Players can also expect another Hunter to arrive during the early access phase.

To start with, players will be able to fight over three battlefields – Crimson Ridge, Maryland Heights, and Stonecutter Keep.  Each of these will include destructible features, meaning that those seeking cover behind an obstacle may not be safe behind it for long.

Those who have had the opportunity to play Steel Hunters will find that the Last Stand mode has been added instead of Starfall Harvest as the main game mode and the revamped System Tree has replaced the initial four-path progression.  This new System Tree provides a single, powerful tree with progressive upgrades.

This first season of Steel Hunters arrives with the first-ever Battle Pass, which runs through to 29th April.  This is a free Battle Pass and will allow players to unlock exclusive skins and earn various rewards, boosters and more.

Head on over to Steam now and try out Steel Hunters for yourselves.
