Warhammer 40,000: Darktide gets Unlocked & Loaded with new update

September 26, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Those loyal to the Emperor will be happy to hear that the Unlocked and Loaded update is now available for Fatshark’s Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.  This free update features an overhaul to itemisation, the Rolling Steel operation, a Party Finder feature and a limited time special event. A new trailer can be seen below showing more of the new features.

The Unlocked and Loaded update overhauls the game’s itemisation system, in fact it completely reinvents weapon progression so that players have more freedom to experiment with different weapons and progress with them.  This overhaul introduces players to two new systems – Mastery and Power, both of which will provide players with clear routes for them to get specific weaponry and the playstyle they want.

The Mastery system will allow players to earn experience for a particular weapon the more they use it through missions. As players gain more experience they will unlock Blessing Points, Weapon Marks and Perks. Blessing Points and Weapon Marks will allow players to unlock different tiers of Blessings or various weapon marks for that weapon while Perks will unlock automatically as players advance in the Mastery track.

The Power System will allow players to improve their weapon’s stats by spending resources at the Shrine of the Omnissiah. Players need no longer stick to any particular weapon’s base stats.

A new mission type, Operations, have been introduced and provide a shorter and more cinematic experience.  This first Operations mission is Rolling Steel, a fast-paced mission where players will have to stop a train that has been hijacked by Cultists within a set amount of time.

Celebrating the release of this epic update is a special event called Unrelenting Hordes.  Running until 10th October, this event will have players retrieve Grimoires and Scriptures from the Infected Moebian 21st.  Retrieval of these items will reward players with in-game currencies – Docket, Plasteel and Diamantine.

Finally, for those looking to join other players, a new Party Finder feature has been introduced.  Players can now seek out similar minded players based on four criterias: Game Mode, Difficulty, Language and assorted Tags.  Keep an eye on this feature as it is set to change based on community feedback.
