Warner Bros. developing a Space Invaders movie

July 19, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Remember Space Invaders? Well it’s coming to a big screen near you…

According to The Wrap, Warner Bros. has snapped up the rights to the classic video game, with Akiva Goldsman, Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell signing on to produce a movie version of the arcade smash.

Given that Space Invaders features little more than rows of alien ships descending upon the player, it’s anyone’s guess as to what we’ll get in terms of plot, barring an invasion from space, of course.

First released by Taito in 1978, Space Invaders was a huge hit in the arcades and helped to revolutionise the video game industry. By 1982, it had pulled in $2 billion in quarters and became the first video game to sell over a million units on home consoles.
