Wasp Network adds Penelope Cruz, Gael Garcia Bernal and Wagner Moura

September 11, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

According to Variety, director Olivier Assayas (Personal Shopper) has enlisted Penelope Cruz (Everybody Knows), Gael Garcia Bernal (Mozart in the Jungle) and Wagner Moura (Narcos) for his new film Wasp Network.

The film, which has previously cast Edgar Ramirez (Cruz’s co-star on The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) and Pedro Pascal (Narcos) is set to tell the true story of “Cuban spies in American territory during the 1990s when anti-Castro groups based in Florida carried out military attacks on Cuba, and the Cuban government struck back with the Wasp Network to infiltrate those organizations.”

Assayas has scripted Wasp Network, which is based upon Fernando Morais’ book The Last Soldiers of the Cold War, and the film is slated to begin production in early 2019.
