Watchmen leads the nominations for the 2020 Emmy Awards

July 28, 2020 by Gary Collinson

The nominations for the 72nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards were announced today, with HBO’s acclaimed superhero series Watchmen scooping a whopping 26 nominations in total including Outstanding Limited Series.

Other series receiving multiple nominations include The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (20), Succession (18), Ozark (18), Schitt’s Creek (15) and The Mandalorian (15).

Meanwhile, although HBO is leading the way with Watchmen, a lack of Emmys favourite Game of Thrones this year means Netflix leads the outlets and networks with a combined 160 nominations compared to HBO’s 107. Streaming newcomers Disney+ and Apple TV+ picked up 19 and 18 respectively.
