William Shatner and Roberto Orci respond to Kirk cameo rumour for Star Trek 3

September 24, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Yesterday a rumour emerged stating that William Shatner could be set for a return to the Star Trek franchise for a cameo alongside Leonard Nimoy’s Spock in Paramount’s upcoming Star Trek 3, and now both Shatner and director Roberto Orci have responded to the claims, with Shatner playing down the speculation and Orci refusing to confirm or deny.

“Let’s talk ST. I don’t know anything about the current gossip. Nobody has contacted me. Right now it’s just rhetoric to cause hype,” said Shatner on Twitter, with Orci posting over at Trek Movie that: “Love no win scenarios. In theory, damned either way. Not in my interest to confirm or deny anything because it limits my options while maintaining my integrity as a truth teller. The movie is not the movie till it is in the theater. Until then, everything is a rumor.”

So, reading between the lines, it doesn’t seem too much of a stretch to assume that Shatner is wanted for Star Trek 3, but a deal is yet to be in place. Would you like to see him back for one last appearance as Kirk? Let us know your thoughts…
