Wonder Woman 1984 will be the first 4K HDR movie on HBO Max

Patty Jenkins, the director of Wonder Woman 1984, says the film will be the first in 4K to appear on HBO Max.

The decision to bring Wonder Woman 1984 to HBO Max alongside a theatrical release wasn’t all that surprising to many considering the current situation with the pandemic.

While seeing the film at home on a TV won’t be able to match the experience of a massive cinema screen and audience, there is a little treat for fans that Wonder Woman 1984 will be available in 4K on the streaming platform.

Director Patty Jenkins announced the news on her Twitter: “Excited to announce that #WW84 will be the first film on HBO Max available in 4K Ultra HD, HDR 10, Dolby Vision AND Dolby Atmos! Can’t wait. IN THEATERS on Dec. 25th and exclusively streaming in the US on @hbomax. PLEASE find the biggest and highest quality screen you can!!”

It will be interesting to see how many people choose to stream the film instead of going to a theatre. And, after all, HBO Max isn’t available everywhere so a cinema will remain the only option for many.

Wonder Woman 1984 reunites Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins with stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Ewen Bremner (Charlie), Said Taghmaoui (Sameer), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe), Doutzen Kroes (Venelia) and new additions Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as Maxwell Lord, and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon), Ravi Patel (Master of None) and Gabriella Wilde (Doctor Who) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
