Wonder Woman 3 will “probably” be director Patty Jenkins’ last instalment in the franchise

August 4, 2020 by Liam Waddington

While audiences are patiently waiting for the release of Wonder Woman 1984, the follows up film to 2017’s Wonder Woman, director Patty Jenkins has recently addressed her future with the franchise.

In an interview with Geek (via Collider), Jenkins revealed that Wonder Woman 3 will “probably” be her last with the DC franchise and offered her thoughts on the potential trilogy.

“WW84 gave me a chance to do a lot of things that I couldn’t accommodate in the first movie. I was so happy to tell the Wonder Woman origin story. It was almost her birth, but we really haven’t seen what she is capable of. It is exciting for me to show her at the peak of her strength,” Jenkins explains. “But it is also very important that she fights an internal struggle: she is a Goddess and tries to help humanity. She is not only someone who fights evil, she tries to show bad people how to improve. It’s an interesting dilemma. The next one (Wonder Woman 3) is probably my last Wonder Woman movie, so I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully.”

While the director’s comments are not a definitive goodbye to the franchise, it’s safe to assume Jenkins is probably planning on developing her own superhero trilogy of films with stories she wanted to tell before departing the world of Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman 1984 reunites Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins with stars Gal Gadot (Diana Prince), Chris Pine (Steve Trevor), Ewen Bremner (Charlie), Said Taghmaoui (Sameer), Connie Nielsen (Queen Hippolyta), Robin Wright (General Antiope), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Menalippe), Doutzen Kroes (Venelia) and new additions Kristen Wiig (Ghostbusters) as Barbara Ann Minerva/Cheetah, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as Maxwell Lord, and Natasha Rothwell (Love, Simon), Ravi Patel (Master of None, Grandfathered) and Gabriella Wilde (Doctor Who, Poldark) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
