X-Men: Dark Phoenix could be heading to space, teases producer

May 24, 2017 by Jordan Jones

It was recently confirmed that the next X-Men movie will be titled X Men: Dark Phoenix, and centered around Jean Grey and her dark alter-ego.

Most comic fans will agree that the previous cinematic iteration of “The Dark Phoenix Saga” in X-Men: The Last Stand was far from doing the source material justice. So, how is 20th Century Fox planning on getting it right this time? Screen Rant sat down with X Men producer Hutch Parker recently, and asked him what the production team was hoping to do differently this time around:

“Quite a bit. Again, I can’t really speak to anything specifically but I think the challenge as offered by all the films we’ve mentioned is very – we’re very aware of the challenge that those movies pose and what it sort of demands of us as storytellers mining, again, one of the great comic runs in The Dark Phoenix Saga. Our hope and expectation is to try and do something that feels different, that takes the audience into a different tone and a different sense of cinematic style that is appropriately suited to the story we’re telling. So I’m trying to answer your question without giving anything away.”

When asked about the potential of the movie going cosmic, and bringing the X-Men into space, Parker laughed and stated: “That is certainly a possibility. That is certainly a possibility. Yes.”

While we have certainly been here before story wise with X-Men: The Last Stand, the potential of heading into space seems to signify that writer-producer Simon Kinberg and company are committed to doing this one right.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on November 2nd, 2018.
