X-Men: Days of Future Past stinger in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 credits, no crossover movie planned

April 17, 2014 by Gary Collinson

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opened here in the UK yesterday [read our review here], and if you’ve been to see the film – and not in IMAX – then you may have noticed a mid-credits tease for another upcoming Marvel movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past. Of course, with the rights to Spider-Man at Sony, and Fox controlling X-Men, this all seems a little confusing. Is Sony and Fox planning a Spider-Man / X-Men team-up to try and take on the might on Marvel Studios? Well, I’m afraid not.

According to Variety, the reason for the cross-promotion is because The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb had a commitment to develop another movie for Fox, the studio behind (500) Days of Summer. In exchange for allowing Webb to direct the Spidey sequel, Sony had to promote Fox’s upcoming X-Men sequel for free. So, if you were hoping to see Andrew Garfield’s wall-crawler sharing the screen with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and company, then I’m afraid it’s not happening. Not yet, at least…

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is out now in the UK and opens on May 2nd in North America while X-Men: Days of Future Past arrives on May 22nd.
