Zachary Levi’s final words in Thor: Ragnarok ended up on the cutting room floor

December 6, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Warning: Spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok follow…

After taking over the role from Joshua Dallas for Thor: The Dark World, Zachary Levi made his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Fandral this year in Thor: Ragnarok, although depending when you blinked, you may have missed what proved to be his final outing as one of the Warriors Three.

During an appearance at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest, Levi spoke about his brief role in the film, which saw him and Ray Stevenson’s Volstagg killed off by Cate Blanchett’s Hela in mere seconds, as well as revealing that his final line in the MCU ended up on the cutting room floor.

“For those of you who have watched the movie, you see that Cate Blanchett comes out and she very just willy-nilly throws some knives of demonic purpose, I don’t know, they’re evil knives impaling both me and Volstagg, killing us instantly, the end,” said Levi. “What is on the cutting room floor is me charging at Hela and getting impaled and going ‘For Asgard.’ No shit, I had my last line, my last words in the Marvel Universe were ‘For Asgard.’ Cutting room floor.”

While he was short changed in Thor: Ragnarok, Levi does have another much bigger superhero role on the horizon, with the actor set to take on the role of Shazam in Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC Extended Universe movie.

In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk.

Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows) and features a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Karl Urban as Skurge, Taika Waititi as Korg, Clancy Brown as Surtur, Rachel House as Topaz, Tadanobu Asano as Hogun, Ray Stevenson as Volstagg and Zachary Levi as Fandral.
