Zachary Quinto talks Star Trek Beyond, says Spock will be paired up with Bones

August 27, 2015 by Gary Collinson

With production in full swing on Paramount’s Star Trek Beyond, MTV caught up with star Zachary Quinto to ask his thoughts on new director Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6), who has taken over from J.J. Abrams to helm the third instalment in the relaunched feature film series.

“Invariably there’s going to be a different vibe when you remove someone as gregarious and outgoing and talented as J.J.,” states Quinto. “But Justin has come in with this really interesting and confident energy that’s a little bit more reserved and a little bit quieter, but also very powerful and really sure-handed. He knows exactly what he wants this movie to look like and that’s really exciting.”

Meanwhile, speaking to The Telegraph, Quinto revealed that Spock won’t share many scenes with Chris Pine’s Kirk in Beyond, but will instead find himself paired up with Karl Urban’s Bones: “Those characters are so diametrically opposed that it’ll be nice to see them interacting.”

Star Trek Beyond is set for release on July 8th 2016, with Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) directing a cast that includes returning stars Chris Pine as James Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Zoë Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones, John Cho as Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Chekov and new additions Idris Elba (Luther), Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Joe Taslim (The Raid) and Lydia Wilson (About Time).
