Zack Snyder states that Dick Grayson is Batman v Superman’s dead Robin, planned to introduce Carrie Kelley

August 4, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Earlier this year, Zack Snyder implied that the Robin suit on display in the Batcave in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may not have belonged to Jason Todd, and now the filmmaker has confirmed on his Vero account that he intended it to belong to “Richard” – a.k.a. Dick Grayson.

As we saw in the rap-sheets in Suicide Squad, The Joker was responsible for murdering the DCEU’s Robin (just as he was in DC comic book continuity), but Snyder’s plan was to have the Robin persona retired following Dick Grayson’s death, until the eventual introduction of The Dark Knight Returns’ Carrie Kelley as Batman’s new sidekick…

It does now seem that Warner Bros. and DC Films have jettisoned Snyder’s plans for Robin, with the studio in development on a Nightwing movie featuring Dick Grayson – although as with many DCEU titles, the status of that project isn’t exactly clear, and there’s been very little movement since it was announced that Chris McKay (The LEGO Batman Movie would direct).

How would you feel about Dick Grayson being dead in the DCEU? Could it have made for an interesting development, or are you glad that Warner Bros. appears to have gone in a different direction? Let us know in the comments below…

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Harry Lennix (General Swanwick), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) and Christina Wren (Carrie Farris) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as The Flash, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth, Holly Hunter (The Piano) as Senator Finch, Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) as Mercy Graves, Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) as Martha Wayne, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) as Thomas Wayne, Scoot McNairy (Argo) as Wallace Keefe and Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire) as Anatoli Knyazev.
