Writers found for female-led Jump Street spin-off

June 9, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Sony has stepped up pre-production preparations for its 21 Jump Street spin-offs by hiring a new set of writers to pen a script for the female-led version of the hit comedy franchise, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bob Burgers writers Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux have signed on to work on a version of the script, and are the second team of writers hired by Sony. Recently, Broad City scribes Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs were also asked to write a script for the studio, who is keen to get as many versions as it can before moving forward.

The Jump Street franchise has done great business for the studio so far. Starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill, the two films have grossed around $530 million worldwide thus far, and a third film, 23 Jump Street, is in the offing with writer Rodney Rothman working on the script.

It seems like a new trend is forming at Sony right now with female-led films, with this project the second after the studio greenlit Paul Feig’s female Ghostbusters reboot, which is set for release next summer with Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon starring.
