Alcon Entertainment developing CG-animated Garfield movie

May 24, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Alcon Entertainment has snapped up the big screen rights to Garfield, and is planning on creating a series of fully CG-animated features based upon Jim Davis’ grumpy feline character.

“Jim Davis’s creation has been an international sensation for all ages for decades, and we are thrilled to bring an animated Garfield feature to the big screen,” states Alcon co-CEOs Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove said in a statement.

Debuting in 1978, Garfield is the most widely syndicated comic strip of all time and has been the subject of two live-action/CG-animated hybrid feature films – 2004’s Garfield: The Movie and 2006’s Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties – where he was voiced by Bill Murray.
