June 15, 2016 by Calum Petrie

Calum Petrie reviews Assassin’s Creed: Templars #3…

In the infamous pleasure tower that dominates the Shanghai nightlife, the Great World, Black Cross battles with the triads that have pursued him through the city night. With time running out, Black Cross has to find the missing information that will reveal what is about to happen in China…

The third issue of Templars starts where the second finished, Black Cross has been lured into an ambush that he was not expecting to find. The first few pages are a chase scene followed by a short lived fight. During the events of the fight we get the first glimpse into a hint of a back story for Black Cross in the form of a flash back to during war time. There is nothing much in the way of character development, though after the flash back you find out there was more to his fight than meets the eye. All of which builds the tension between the native gangs of Shanghai and the newly implemented Templar order of  the area.

The second half of the issue focuses more on the Templar newbie Darius Gift; after losing the object of mission (literally a box) in the first issue to a mysterious woman called Roo, his lucky investigation has led him back to her. His naive nature plays through during his confrontation of the woman and only leads to him becoming a victim more that the opposing figure in their brief encounter.

It is hard to tell is this issue felt shorter because it was split into to obvious halves, all I am aware of was it did fell short. I want to know more about the story which to some degree tells me I am not invested in the story and wish to know the outcome of what happens with the intertwined fates of Black Cross and Darius Gift.

Rating: 7/10
