Sarah Gadon replaces Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise?

June 21, 2013 by admin

Earlier this week we heard that Marc Webb had decided to cut Shailene Woodley’s (The Descendants) scenes as Mary Jane Watson from the currently in production The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was followed by rumours that Sony were looking to recast the role for the recently announced third and fourth Spidey movies.

Well, it seems those reports were on the money, with Movieweb claiming that Sarah Gadon (A Dangerous Method, Cosmopolis) has secured the role of MJ, and that she was cast prior to the announcement of Woodley’s departure. The news appears to have been confirmed by Gadon herself, who told Entertainment Tonight that she’s joined the franchise, although she stopped short of revealing her role.

Update – Gadon has taken to Twitter to reveal that she will appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but she’s NOT playing Mary Jane.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on May 2nd., 2014 with the returning Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Sally Field joined by Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained), Dane DeHaan (Chronicle), Paul Giamatti (Sideways), Chris Cooper (American Beauty), Colm Feore (Thor) and Felicity Jones (Like Crazy). Meanwhile The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is set to arrive in 2016, followed by The Amazing Spider-Man 4 in 2018.
