Pinch of salt time…
The latest rumour to make its way out of Latino Review concerns James Cameron’s Avatar and its sequels.
Since it was announced that the highest grossing film of all time would be receiving three sequels, filmed together and released Lord of the Rings style, there have been rumours surrounding casting and now we hear that it could be a Cameron alumni.
James Cameron started the ball rolling whilst speaking to MTV about the sequels: “It would be a continuation of their story (Jake and Neytiri) and I expect that those nasty humans didn’t go away forever: ‘Oh, well that didn’t work!’”.
So who could it be? None other that the Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger, star of previous Cameron classics The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day and True Lies. Supposedly he would take on the role of a “bad guy human general”.
Arnie may have hinted towards this earlier this year when he also spoke to MTV – “Movie-wise, he’s tied up with his next two movies, but hopefully, there’s something down the line when he’s finished with that. I always look forward to working with him because Cameron is a very talented director.”.
Take all this how you will. That the pair have worked together before gives it some credence, and Arnie’s career post California hasn’t exactly been stellar. Maybe he wants a bankable hit and Cameron is the man to give it to him? As with most internet rumours, for every ten that come out one may hold some truth, so lets just keep our eyes on this one.
Update – According to the ever-reliable Heat Vision, the reports about Arnie joining the Avatar sequels are incorrect, with a Fox spokesperson stating that the actor will not be in Avatar 2, nor is he being considered for any role.
Production is scheduled for 2014, with Avatar 2 to be released in December 2016, Avatar 3 in December 2017 and Avatar 4 in 2018.
