Vincent D’Onofrio to play The Kingpin in Marvel’s Daredevil

June 10, 2014 by admin

Following the announcement that Stardust‘s Charlie Cox would be playing Matt Murdock in Marvel’s Netflix series Daredevil, Marvel have announced that veteran actor Vincent D’Onofrio will be playing his nemesis Wilson Fisk a.k.a. The Kingpin.

D’Onofrio was recently seen in The Escape Plan but is perhaps best known for his role as Detective Robert Goren in Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Edgar in the 1997 comedy smash Men in Black.

“We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining ‘Marvel’s Daredevil‘ in such an integral role,” Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, said in a statement. “Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero.”

Wilson Fisk first appeared in comics in The Amazing Spider-Man #50 but became a main villain for Daredevil during Frank Miller’s seminal Born Again when he was sold Matt Murdock’s identity by his former secretary Karen Page.

The Kingpin has had two on-screen portrayals in the past with the late Michael Clarke Duncan playing the role in the 2003 movie and John-Rhys Davis taking on the character in the TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk.

Marvel’s Daredevil will run for 13 episodes on Netflix and will then be followed by Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones before the four team up for The Defenders.
