New Line rebooting A Nightmare on Elm Street… again

August 6, 2015 by Luke Owen

It’s fair to say that the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street did not win over the vast majority of movie-goers of fans of the franchise – and as such a sequel was never greenlit. So what do you do when you can’t get a sequel off the ground? Do what Paul Feig did with Ghostbusters and just reboot it.

Reports are saying that New Line Cinemas will be rebooting the series with screenwriter David Leslie Johnson, who has also been hired to write the new Dungeons & Dragons movie. There is no timescale on the movie yet, but like the Friday the 13th movie over at Paramount, this one could be in development for a long time.

New Line is often called “the house that Freddy built”, after the success of Wes Craven’s 1984 horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street saved them from financial oblivion. Since then, the series has produced five sequels, one reboot, a TV show, multiple comic series, twelve novels, a cross-over with Friday the 13th and a guest appearance in Mortal Kombat. The last attempt to bring Freddy to the silver screen was the 2010 remake, which only mustered $115 million at the box office.

Are you excited for Freddy Kruger to haunt some dreams again?
