Duracell’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens commercial features a Battle for Christmas Morning

November 2, 2015 by Gary Collinson

No need for the Duracell bunny in your batteries this Christmas, as all of the world’s toys will be powered by The Force thanks to a new TV advert for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In the advert, a young boy changes his batteries to Duracell and soon enough his lightsaber is ready for action as Stormtroopers storm his hallways and hold his little sister hostage. The big inclusion in the commercial, which is relatively spoiler-free, are the appearances of C-3PO (red-arm included) and R2-D2, who we have seen only glimpses of so far in The Force Awakens’ publicity.

However, perhaps the biggest potential spoiler is the little girl that appears towards the end. Dressed similarly to Daisy Ridley’s Rey, she uses the Force to help defeat the Stormtroopers before she and her brother take on the AT-AT’s and TIE Fighters. Does this suggest Rey is in fact a Jedi like many have rumoured? Perhaps, or maybe it’s just a exciting Star Wars-themed advert that kids will love.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 17th in the UK and December 18th in the States and sees J.J. Abrams directing returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar), in addition to Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Ken Leung (Lost), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day), Simon Pegg (Star Trek) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
