Katherine Kelly to lead Doctor Who spinoff Class

April 5, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in October, it was announced that Doctor Who would be getting a spinoff entitled Class, and now the BBC has revealed that Katherine Kelly will lead the cast as a Coal Hill School teacher in charge of a group of students played by Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, and Vivian Oparah.

“We searched far and wide for this amazing cast, fantastic actors who understand what we’re aiming for with this show,” states Class creator Patrick Ness (via EW). “And how lucky we are to get Katherine Kelly! She’s been stunning in Happy Valley, The Night Manager, and Mr. Selfridge, just wait until you see her here.”

“Class is dark and sexy and right now,” adds Doctor Who and Class executive producer Steven Moffat. “I’ve always wondered if there could be a British Buffy — it’s taken the brilliant Patrick Ness to figure out how to make it happen.”

Class is set to film in the spring and is expected to air later this year.
