Neve Campbell says Scream influenced her decision to leave Hollywood

July 12, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Actress Neve Campbell has confirmed that her Scream fame caused her to leave Hollywood.

We heard last week that the fame Evangeline Lilly found after Lost caused her to quit acting for a while and now Scream star Neve Campbell has spoken about a not dissimilar experience.

Speaking to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Campbell said that the fame she found was too much for her to handle and led her to projects she wasn’t interested in: “I needed a minute. In my 20s, it all hit so fast and so big that it was a little overwhelming. Wonderful, obviously, and I’m very grateful for it, but it got to a level, also, where the kinds of things that I was being offered were not the things I wanted to do. I was constantly being offered horror films, because I was known for horror films, or bad romantic comedies.

“I just wasn’t interested in the scripts and I was feeling a bit unhappy with the things that were coming to me and I was feeling a little bored of the whole thing and I thought, ‘I want a change.’”

Campbell didn’t stay away for long, however, and now seems to be happy with the work she is finding, such as opposite Dwayne Johnson in the new film Skyscraper.

Global icon Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of Legendary’s Skyscraper as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line.

Skyscraper is out in cinemas now.
