Deadpool screenwriters in talks to reboot Pirates of the Caribbean

October 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Despite Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales grossing almost $800 million at the worldwide box office, it looks like Disney is looking to shake up its swashbuckling fantasy adventure series with a reboot.

According to Deadline, Disney has met with Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and the duo are now in early talks about penning the script for a new instalment in the franchise.

The site goes on to report that Jerry Bruckheimer will remain on board as a producer on the next chapter, although it’s unclear whether any of the cast – including leading man Johnny Depp – will be back for the sixth outing.

An earlier rumour had claimed that Dead Men Tell No Tales helmer Joachim Ronning would be returning to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 6 from a script by Ted Elliott, Terry Rossio and Jeff Nathanson, although given the Reese and Wernick news it seems that may have been wide of the mark.
