Although we’ve still got the best part of two months to wait for its release, filmmaker James Wan has taken to Instagram to announce that the DC Extended Universe blockbuster Aquaman is complete and in the can!
“After two years of consuming and devouring my every waking hour, this little indie movie is finally done,” writes Wan. “It was a monster undertaking. I can’t THANK enough the amazing post team of VFX/editorial/sound for working tirelessly around the clock — crazy long days, 7 days a week, for many many many weeks without a day off — towards making this a unique and beautiful film. Everyone poured their heart and soul into it, and I can’t wait to share this 21st December! In the meantime, I’m gonna go take a really long nap now.”

Despite recent (debunked) rumours that Warner Bros. was looking to enforce cuts on the movie, it seems that much like Wonder Woman, production on Aquaman has went by without a hitch – certainly a rarity for the DCEU. Let’s hope Wan and company can manage to match the same kind of quality as the Amazon Princess’ solo debut.

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry and Graham McTavish in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
