Captain Marvel tops list of the most anticipated movies of 2019

December 23, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With 2018 drawing to a close, the IMDb has released a list of the most anticipated movies of 2019, as determined by page views on the website and the MOVIEmeter rankings from IMDb Pro.

Coming out on top is the Marvel Studios blockbuster Captain Marvel, which will see Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers becoming the first female superhero to lead her own Marvel movie, while Avengers: Endgame and X-Men: Dark Phoenix place in second and third respectively. Here’s the full top ten:

1. Captain Marvel
2. Avengers: Endgame
3. X-Men: Dark Phoenix
4. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
5. The Irishman
6. It: Chapter 2
7. Glass
8. Joker
9. Aladdin
10. Hellboy

There’s some notable omissions there, including the likes of Shazam!, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Toy Story 4, The Lion King and Star Wars: Episode IX, but it looks like we can safely assume that 2019 is going to be another immensely successful year for Marvel Studios.

What do you make of the list? What are your most anticipated movies of 2019? Let us know in the comments below…

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

Captain Marvel is being directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind) and sees Brie Larson (Kong: Skull Island) leading the cast as Carol Danvers alongside Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy), Lashana Lynch (Fast Girls), Gemma Chan (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), Algenis Perez Soto (Sambá), Rune Temte (Eddie The Eagle), McKenna Grace (I, Tonya), Annette Bening (American Beauty), Ana Ayora (The Big Wedding), Vik Sahay (Chuck), Kenneth Mitchell (Star Trek: Discovery), Chuku Modo (The Good Doctor), Clark Gregg (The Avengers) and Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald).
