Shawn Levy becomes the latest director to exit Uncharted movie

December 21, 2018 by Gary Collinson

More than two years after he was first announced as taking on the reins of the project, THR is reporting that Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) has now vacated the director’s chair on the planned big screen adaptation of Uncharted in order to focus his attention on the Ryan Reynolds-headlined Free Guy.

Levy’s departure is the latest in a long line of bumps in the road for the planned feature adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game series, which has now been in the works for a decade. Levy now follows in the footsteps of David O. Russell (The Fighter), Neil Burger (Divergent) and Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), all of whom have been attached to direct at one point or another.

Back in January, Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) had been brought in to rewrite a draft of the script by Joe Carnahan (The Grey), which centres on a young Nathan Drake and has Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) attached to star. As yet, there’s no word on a new director for the video game adaptation, but whoever comes on board, expect them to drop out a couple of years down the line.
