SPOILERS: Marvel’s Kevin Feige on how Far From Home ending will impact Spider-Man going forward

July 15, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Warning: Spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home follow…

The mid-credits scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home marked a major change in the status quo for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – one that’s set to have huge reverberations for the web-slinger with his secret identity now public after being outed as Peter Parker by the Daily Bugle’s J. Jonah Jameson.

Speaking to Fandango, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has discussed the big reveal, and how it will impact the wall-crawler’s story going forward:

“Much like the end of Iron Man, saying, okay, the rules have changed. Which now means we’re going to have to do something completely different next time. The how and the when and the specifics can change and evolve, but setting yourself up for something that has never been done before.

At the end of Iron Man, it was a hero publicly outing himself so that in the next movies and all subsequent movies, we couldn’t fall back on the secret identity trope which had been part of Iron Man’s story for decades in the comics. And now people know Peter’s identity. People now think he’s a villain. Mysterio plays one last trick on him and succeeds… Where it goes, we’ll see. But it’s exciting that it once again sets us up for a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film.”

At this point, it’s unclear when we’ll next see Spidey in the MCU, but perhaps we’ll have a better idea after next weekend’s big Marvel presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con International.

Peter Parker returns in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the next chapter of the Spider-Man: Homecoming series! Our friendly neighborhood Super Hero decides to join his best friends Ned, MJ, and the rest of the gang on a European vacation. However, Peter’s plan to leave super heroics behind for a few weeks are quickly scrapped when he begrudgingly agrees to help Nick Fury uncover the mystery of several elemental creature attacks, creating havoc across the continent!

Spider-Man: Far From Home features the return of Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Marisa Tomei (Aunt May), Zendaya (Michelle), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), Angourie Rice (Betty Brant), Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), Martin Star (Mr. Harrington), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), with Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler) as Mysterio.
