Jesse Eisenberg says Deadpool was responsible for Zombieland sequel delay

October 10, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Jesse Eisenberg, the star of Zombieland: Double Tap, says that Deadpool is partially responsible for the film’s delay.

Zombieland was a major success when it released in 2009, taking advantage of the huge interest in zombie-related media that was growing at the time. A sequel was always on the cards but has seen major delays.

Zombieland: Double Tap is now coming a decade later when perhaps the ship has already sailed. Who is responsible for the delays? Well, star Jesse Eisenberg points the finger at Deadpool. Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he said:

“We waited 10 years to do the movie—well, we didn’t wait, we were trying to do the movie right after the first one because the first one was so popular, and we waited for the best script. In the meantime, the two writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, did Deadpool, and then we were kind of waiting for them to finish that so they could write this. We were all waiting, me, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, we were all waiting for the best script and it finally came.”

Finger’s crossed the sequel can hit home with fans of the original and also entice people new to the franchise. Fans can finally see the movie when arrives in cinemas later this month.

In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.

Zombieland: Double Tap is set for release on October 18th and reunites director Ruben Fleischer with screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and original stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, along with new cast additions Rosario Dawson (Luke Cage), Zoey Deutch (Flower), Avan Jogia (Now Apocalypse), Luke Wilson (Roadies) and Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley).
