2020 Gotham Awards nominates all women directors for Best Feature, honors Chadwick Boseman with posthumous nomination

November 12, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The Gotham Independent Film Awards 2020 is one of the first major awards shows of the year, and it seems like the global health crisis hasn’t hindered the chance to honour some powerful films.

Kelly Reichardt’s period drama First Cow collected four Gotham Awards nominations to lead the field, while the biggest storys walking away from this morning’s nomination announcements is that a woman directs each film nominated for Best Feature.

First Cow (Reichardt), The Assistant (Kitty Green), Never Rarely Sometimes Always (Eliza Hittman), Nomadland (Chloe Zhao), and Relic (Natalie Erika James) all contest the top prize, and all see female directors helming the projects.

The late Chadwick Boseman also sees a nomination for his work in the upcoming Netflix film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
