Leaked Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker concept art is not from Colin Trevorrow’s version of the film

January 22, 2020 by Samuel Brace

The leaked concept art from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is not from Colin Trevorrow’s version of the film.

While Episode IX has been out in cinemas for many weeks at this point, the film is still being discussed online as it passed $1 billion at the box office.

Recently, there has been talk about what Colin Trevorrow’s version of the film could have been like (before he was dismissed).

Some leaked concept art has added fuel to that fire, showing some fascinating stills that concept designers would have pitched during the film’s early production. Some have suggested these images are from Trevorrow’s version of Episode IX, however, the director has confirmed this is not the case.

Taking to Twitter in response to IGN’s erroneous coverage of the concept art, Trevorrow said: “Some beautiful work in here from artists I was lucky enough to work with, but nothing from our story. Credit where credit is due. Love @PhilSzostak’s books…”

It’s always interesting to wonder about what could have been and concept art is a great way to do so, with much of it rejected at the early stages of a film’s development as artists pitch their various ideas. Perhaps some of the art will be utilised in upcoming Star Wars projects instead!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) directing a cast that includes Star Wars veterans Daisy Ridley (Rey), Adam Driver (Kylo Ren), John Boyega (Finn), Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata), Domhnall Gleeson (General Hux), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Billie Lourd (Lieutenant Connix), Greg Grunberg (Snap Wexley), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine) and Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa) as well as new additions Naomi Ackie (Lady Macbeth), Richard E. Grant (Logan), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), and Keri Russell (The Americans).
