Ash vs. Evil Dead star believes the series could have survived on a different service

June 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

After three seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead – which also saw Bruce Campbell reprise his role as Ashley “Ash” J. Williams – the series was unfortunately cancelled on Starz following a disappointing number of recorded viewers.

However, in a recent discussion during Mainframe Comic Con 2.0 (via ComicBook), one of the stars of the show, Ray Santiago, who played Pablo, has claimed that the show could have possibly survived on a different platform such as Hulu, Amazon or Netflix.

“I loved the home that we had on Starz, but it was so limited in its viewership,” Santiago said. “We could have had a bigger audience were we on a platform like Hulu or Amazon or Netflix, but because we were on this cable subscription, it really limited the audience. Because as the show got on to Netflix, we started to see that people were still watching seasons one through three and were really into it. It was sad because we had this greatness and it didn’t get the praise that it should have gotten. And, personally, I was really looking forward to seeing where things were gonna go with the show. Just because we had set up so many relationships, it was just all there to play with.”

Whether or not the series could be resurrected in the future on a different network or service remains to be seen, however, Campbell has publicly revealed his retirement from Ash following the cancellation so more appearances of the character are currently in doubt.
