Kristen Wiig on her transformation into Wonder Woman 1984 villain Cheetah

December 15, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Known for her comedic work in film and television, Kristen Wiig is finally getting to play the villain she says she’s been waiting for.

As part of the Wonder Woman 1984 global press conference, Wiig describes herself as a “superhero movie geek” and spoke about her happiness in this take on the character. “I’ve never played anything like this before, so it was very scary. I felt very taken care of, and it was an amazing – scary – but fun experience for me.”

In an attempt to distance herself from other DC female villains, she spoke about director Patty Jenkins’s decision not to cast her as the typical “mousy-girl turned villain.” Wiig openly ponders, “What is it about her that makes her so lonely and invisible, and what does she really want?”

She also says the production and transformation also helped get into the role a bit more: “She goes through three really big stages. The wardrobe and costumes really helped, working with Patty to figure out who she is at every stage.”
