The Big Bang Theory sets course for new spinoff on rebranded Max

April 13, 2023 by EJ Moreno

You can’t keep a good series down for too long, and The Big Bang Theory is coming back.

As part of the retooled and rebranded HBO Max, now titled Max, Warner Bros. Discovery is tapping into one of their most beloved works. A new Big Bang Theory spinoff is currently in the works, with Chuck Lorre returning as executive producer via the Chuck Lorre Productions banner.

The new show is shaping up to be different, though, and we may not see a return of all the fan-favorite characters. Max didn’t offer any more details, but Deadline mentions that this spinoff ” features a mostly new cast with potential for known Big Bang stars to appear in guest spots.”

The Big Bang Theory aired on CBS for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019, proving a dominant force in sitcom television history. The series finale garnered just under 18 million viewers, and the numbers are still substantial as the series plays in syndication.

The first spinoff Young Sheldon premiered in 2017 and is currently on its sixth season, with a seventh season already greenlit. There’s still a fanbase there as well, as Young Sheldon is often hailed as the most-viewed comedy on the air.

The potential spinoff will be the second Lorre’s second project at Max. Currently in production is How to Be a Bookie, a Max comedy series starring Sebastian Maniscalco, Omar J. Dorsey, Andrea Anders, Vanessa Ferlito and Jorge Garcia.
