Deadpool 3’s cameos were “easy” to arrange, says director Shawn Levy

October 27, 2023 by Ricky Church

Though Deadpool 3 has been temporarily pulled from the release schedule due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, it hasn’t stopped being one of the summer’s most anticipated films Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman uniting as Deadpool and Wolverine for the first time since the much maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Director Shawn Levy recently joined the Happy Sad Confused podcast and spoke about the amount of roles and cameos he and Reynolds secured from across 20th Century Fox’s slate of Marvel films, including Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra from the Ben Affleck-led Daredevil and her own spin-off Elektra. Many of the other cameos have been kept secret, which is as expected since Deadpool 3 will see the Merc With A Mouth formally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“What blew my mind is how easy some of those cameos have been,” Levy said on the podcast. “People love Deadpool. People love Ryan [Reynolds]. Thankfully, people also seem to like my work. They know that Ryan and I are in a groove of creative brotherhood that is unique and seems to be working. So, yeah, I love that there’s been a proliferation of casting rumors around my movie because there’s so many that it’s impossible to know what’s real and what’s made up. So, all I’ll say is that starting with Ryan and Hugh, some that the world knows about: Matthew McFadyen, Emma Corrin, really just going to work is a delight.”

Deadpool 3 was originally to be released on May 3, 2024, but since filming was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike it will not be able to meet that date even if the strike were to end soon. It is unknown if Marvel Studios and Disney will swap Deadpool 3 with another MCU film or delay it even further into the year.

Deadpool 3 will be directed by Shawn Levy (Free Guy) and stars Reynolds alongside Deadpool veterans Stefan Kapacic (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio) and Rob Delaney (Peter) as well as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Jennifer Garner as Elektra and new additions Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and Emma Corrin (The Crown) in as yet unspecified roles.
