Recently, it was announced New Zealand’s government is allowing film and TV production to resume in the country following the global health crisis and now, according to one of the producers of Avatar 2, cameras will soon be rolling once again on James Cameron’s sci-fi sequels.
Taking to Instagram, producer Jon Landau revealed a behind-the-scenes photo of a vessel that will be featured in the upcoming films and stated that filming will resume as soon as next week.

“Our #Avatar sets are ready — and we couldn’t be more excited to be headed back to New Zealand next week. Check out the Matador, a high speed forward command vessel (bottom) and the Picador jetboat (top) — can’t wait to share more,” Landau said.
Although the long-awaited Avatar sequels were affected by the delays caused by the global health crisis, director James Cameron believes Avatar 2 could still make its December 17th, 2021 release date. Currently, Avatar 3 will be released on December 22, 2023, Avatar 4 will be released on December 19, 2025, and Avatar 5 will be released on December 17, 2027.
Avatar 2 sees Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver all reprising their roles from the first film, while new additions to the cast include Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Filip Geljo, Jamie Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Duane Evans Jr., Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Keston John and CJ Jones.
